Week 8 Results

We've passed the middle of our season and there's still no shortage of excitement! Here are the Week 8 scores:

DHARMAHELPER 15 v. Leggy -13
Leggy's Detroit defense let her down in a big way in London, putting her 45 points in the red to start her day. Her day didn't get any better as DH's Baltimore-Chicago combo put up 49 combined points for him during the 1:00 games. By the end of the late afternoon games, DH had lost most of his points thank sto his Jets defense but Leggy's Seattle offense only put up chump change against the Cowboys. Down by 47, Leggy didn't get what she needed out of Denver. Scoring 29 points is good but on any other week but it wasn't enough to put her in the black. DH pulled off the only win for the Baddie Conference this week.

EPIGNOSIS 49 v. MovingPictures07 29
Put the two conference bottom-feeders together and get ready for excitement! After the 1:00 games, Epi surged out to a 58-point lead. MP07's day didn't get much rosier when his Cowboys offense only shaved 12 points off of his deficit. Barring an epic meltdown on Monday Night Football, Epi was all but certain to win. The Panthers may have gotten a scare Monday night when the Colts mounted a comeback attempt but Epi never sweat a drop. His win streak now extended to three games, Epignosis finds himself in the hunt for both 3rd and 2nd place in the Civvie Conference.

G-Man 46 v. METALMARSH89 50
After Thursday night, G-Man probably felt optimistic. His Patriots ran all over the Dolphins. Then the London game saw his Kansas City defense give up just 10 points. All he needed was his substitute offense to seal the deal for him. The 1:00 games turned the tables on him in a big way. MM89's defense held strong and his offenses put up their standard-issue great numbers. With the Falcons losing in overtime, G-Man came up just shy of a win, leaving no doubt in anyone's mind that MM89 is truly a force to reckon with.

GOLDEN 39 v. TurnipHead 30
Here's another case of squandered optimism. Turnip Head saw his Rams defense hold the 49ers to just six points on the same weekend that his Steelers offense gets Big Ben back. But Big Ben was more like Big Bust, as the Steelers only scored 10, allowing Golden to get out to a 25-point lead thanks to the Giants more than overcoming the points allowed by his substitute Titans defense. Golden's Packers could have put it away but pulled a Steelers on the night, only scoring 10. TH needed the scrambling Colts to come up big for him but they didn't have it in them.

While Metalmarsh89 seems to be running away with the league, the rest of the standings seem to keep getting closer and closer:

This week there will be a lot of draft action, as five players need to select six teams as substitutes. The draft order is:

1. MovingPictures07
2. DharmaHelper
3. Leggyorlyb
4. G-Man
5. Metalmarsh89
6. Leggyorlyb

WEEK 9 SCHEDULE:

DharmaHelper (4-4) v. MovingPictures07 (1-7)
Epignosis (3-5) v. Leggyorlyb (4-4)
G-Man (5-3) v. Turnip Head (4-4)
Golden (4-4) v. Metalmarsh89 (7-1)

Week 6 Results

Week 6 of the NFL has made our EZ Fantasy Football League a little more competitive. Here are the scores:

DharmaHelper 34 - TURNIPHEAD 42
In a bold move, Turnip Head picked the struggling Miami Dolphins as his supplemental defense with his Rams defense on bye week. TH was up by one after the 1:00 games ended but DH bounced back into the lead thanks to Baltimore's late afternoon game. It all came down to Sunday night action, where the Indianapolis Colts scored enough points on the Patriots to give TH a rematch victory over DH. TH becomes the first team to win with supplemental bye-week picks.

EPIGNOSIS 24 - Metalmarsh89 12
This was a thing of beauty to watch unfold. The Saints looked they were back in top form Thursday night, giving Epi one heck of a start on this match-up. MM's points-heavy Cardinals looked shaky and only put up 13 points against Pittsburgh. With the Bengals giving up 21 points, MM89 found himself in a 55-point hole after the 1:00 games. MM needed his Chargers to score a lot and he needed Epi's Panthers to give up a lot of points. Neither happened to the extent needed, giving Epi his first win of the year and MM his first loss.

G-MAN 45 - MovingPictures07 11
Time was not on MP07's side this week yet again. After the 1:00 games, his teams were all done for the week and he only had 11 points. G-Man's Chiefs only gave up 16 to the Vikings, so he only had a shallow hole to climb out of. The Patriots dug him out of that hole Sunday night and the Eagles piled on more points Monday night, giving him another lop-sided victory.

Golden 0 - LEGGYORLYB 15
Both teams started 3-2 this week and only one came out with a winning record. Golden's Buffalo defense left Golden feeling as deflated as Tom Brady's footballs after the 1:00 games concluded. The Packers raised his spirits during the late afternoon games, however, leaving him just 22 points behind Leggy. His Giants offense averaged 26.4 points per game through Week 5, so he had hope. Leggy got the last laugh and the win though, as the Giants played like the practice squad for most of the game. At the very least, they scored seven points, bringing Golden up to a nice round goose egg.

We had to use NFL tie-breaker rules to settle the Baddie Conference standings this week. The newly victorious Turnip Head edged out DharmaHelper for second place but can he hold onto that spot for another week?

NFL tie-breaking rules also had to be applied to this week's supplemental draft order:

1) DharmaHelper (3-3)- needs an offense
2) Golden (3-3)- needs an offense
3) Leggyorlyb (4-2)- needs an offense
4) Metalmarsh89 (5-1)- needs a defense

Here is a graphic that shows who has already used which teams in bye-week drafts:

WEEK 7 MATCH-UPS:
DharmaHelper (3-3) v. G-Man (4-2)
Epignosis (1-5) v. Golden (3-3)
MovingPictures07 (1-5) v. Turnip Head (3-3)
Leggyorlyb (4-2) v. Metalmarsh89 (5-1)

Week 5 Results

A week of NFL intrigue keeps things interesting in our league. Here are the Week 5 results:

DharmaHelper 10 - GOLDEN 41
If the league didn't require bye-week substitutions, DharmaHelper could have added to his win column this week. Unfortunately for him, he had to pick a defense after the Atlanta Falcons were snatched up in the supplemental draft. His Ravens and Bears put up solid offensive numbers but his supplemental pick on defense, the Jaguars, proved fatal. We refuse to call this a bye-week blunder because the Jags held their opponents to an average of 18.67, not including their game against the Patriots. Furthermore, none of the available supplemental teams would have led DH to a win. On the flip-side of the game was the opportunistic Golden. He had all three of his drafted teams and they all did their jobs. The Giants and the Packers put up respectable numbers and the Bills held strong against a weak opponent.

Epignosis 12 - TURNIP HEAD 27
Picking bye-week supplemental teams led to two losses so far, but could Epignosis defy the odds? He came close but not close enough. Taking the Atlanta Falcons was a smart choice but they didn't put up the same monster number as recent week. Epi's Saints were the, well, the Saints and struggled. On top of it all, Epi's supplemental Browns defense got a win but they gave up a lot of points to get it. Turnip Head was left sweating by halftime Monday night though. His Colts scored barely enough points to leave him above zero after another iffy performance by his Rams defense. So it all came down to Pittsburgh, who were held to three points by halftime. Epi could win if Pittsburgh could be held to eight points or fewer but it wasn't to be. Pittsburgh opened things up in the second half and added to Epi's heart-breaking season.

G-MAN 51 - Leggyorlyb -2
The Chip Kelly experiment finally produced for G-Man in Week 5. The Patriots did their job and the Eagles lit up the scoreboard. Despite losing at the end, the Chiefs finally looked like the potent defensive team they were last season. On the opposite side of the game, Leggy's Broncos continued to underproduce and the Seahawks couldn't crack the Bengals defense in a meaningful way. Then there's the Detroit Lions defense. This year hasn't been pretty for them and Week 5 only got uglier for them as the Arizona Cardinals used them t get back into their high-flying form.

METALMARSH89 38 - MovingPictures07 17
Leave it to Mr. Perfection to find victory with only two of his three teams. The Arizona Cardinals scored enough points (again) to assure MM the win (again). His Bengals defense let up more than their average points against but MovingPictures07's team just couldn't keep pace. Tampa Bay's offense produced a huge score but the Dallas Cowboys looked more like cow dung, putting up just six points. His Houston Texans defense continued to struggle despite their supposed pedigree. By the end of the day Sunday, MM had a one-point lead with San Diego's offense left to simply increase his margin of victory on Monday Night Football.

Using NFL tie-breaking procedures, we have the following standings after Week 5:

In Week 6, MovingPictures07 needs to draft two supplemental offenses and Turnip Head is in search of a supplemental defense. MP07 will draft first, followed by TH, then MP07 again. This week, we start a two-week stretch of conference play.

WEEK 6 MATCH-UPS:
DharmaHelper (3-2) v. Turnip Head (2-3)
Epignosis (0-5) v. Metalmarsh89 (5-0)
G-Man (3-2) v. MovingPictures07 (1-4)
Golden (3-2) v. Leggyorlyb (3-2)

Week 4 Results

Another intriguing week in the NFL translates to another wild week in our league. G-Man selected the Oakland Raiders for his bye-week substitution and a few players relied on just one of their three teams to help them out. Here are the results and match-up recaps:

DHARMAHELPER 31 - Epignosis 23
DH got the rebound he needed after his first loss of the season last week. All three of his teams won their respective games in Week 4. That marks the third time this season that all three teams on a player's roster won. It should be no surprise then that this is also the third time that such good fortune leads to a win. DH got off to an early start, with the Ravens winning Thursday night and the Jets holding the Dolphins to 14 points early Sunday in London. His formerly hapless Bears found a way to win over the Raiders. DH's gain, however, is Epignosis' loss. Two of his teams won this weekend. He even scored enough total points to beat a few other players in the league- it just wasn't enough to beat the player he was up against. Perhaps Week 5 will hold Epi's first win. Only time will tell.

G-Man 4 - GOLDEN 17
Much like the Miami Dolphins, G-Man looked like a team with promise early on. Week 4 should have been a gimme, what with him playing an opponent with a defense and an offense playing each other. Golden only had the Green Bay Packers to fight for a win. G-Man had a choice to make in a substitute offense. Instead of picking the red-hot Falcons over a seemingly formidable Texans defense, G-Man went with the Oakland Raiders, thinking they would bowl over the Chicago Bears like everyone else has. G-Man's Oakland decision became our first bye-week blunder. Green Bay didn't score many points this weekend but they didn't have to. With their first touchdown of the late afternoon game, Golden had already put the final nail in G-Man's Week 4 coffin.

LEGGYORLYB 23 - MovingPictures07 -5
Could lightning possibly strike twice in one week? The answer is yes. Leggy became the second player this weekend (and the third all season) to win a game despite having two teams canceling each other out. The secret to her success? The utter meltdown of the Houston Texans defense at the hands of the Atlanta Falcons. MP07's defense lost him so many points that he couldn't even get back to 0, making him the first player this season to finish a game with negative points. MP07's offenses actually had a good week but his defense did him in.

METALMARSH 31 - Turnip Head 14
Four and oh what a team! MM leaned heavily on his Arizona offense the last two weeks but this week it was San Diego's turn to carry him to victory. The Cardinals lost a tight game but MM's Cincinnati defense came in clutch as well, limiting their opponent to just 21 points. Unfortunately for TH, neither of his offenses showed up in full force. Neither of TH's offenses had their starting QB's this weekend, making it hard to put up the points needed to stay competitive. Can anyone beat MM? Or, now that his Arizona offense has been stopped by one team, is it just a matter of time before Mr. 4-0 is made human again?

With Week 4 in the books, here are the league standings:

In Week 5, Epignosis has an offense and his defense on bye-week. DharmaHelper has his defense on bye-week as well. Because Epignosis has the worst record of the two, he gets to choose first in this weeks supplemental draft.

WEEK 5 MATCH-UPS:
DharmaHelper (3-1) v. Golden (2-2)
Epignosis (0-4) v. Turnip Head (1-3)
G-Man (2-2) v. Leggyorlyb (3-1)
Metalmarsh89 (4-0) v. MovingPictures07 (1-3)

Week 3 Results

Another week is in the books but there is still a lot of season left. There were certainly some surprising results in the NFL but only one real surprise in our league this week. Here are the scores and game summaries:

DharmaHelper 0 - G-MAN 37
This is the surprise of the week. DH's team laughed in the face of our bets against him in Weeks 1 and 2. This week, however, some tough match-ups stood in his way of going 3-0. DH's Jets defense played G-Man's Eagles offense. This game opened a 48-point divide in G-Man's favor but DH's Ravens offense scored as many points as the Jets gave up, reducing G-Man's lead to 24. G-Man's Patriots offense put up an insane 51 points against the Jaguars (but was anyone really expecting the Jag to keep it anywhere near close?). Heading into the afternoon games, G-Man led 75-0. DH still had two games to help him out- his Bears offense and G-Man's shaky Chiefs defense. After the Bears finished with zero points scored, DH's odds of a victory were virtually nil. Though the Chiefs would have needed to let up the most points ever by an NFL team, they only squandered just over half of G-Man's lead.

Epignosis 31 - GOLDEN 56
In the battle of the 0-2 teams, Epi found himself short-handed. His Panthers defense played his Saints offense, forcing him to rely on the Minnesota Vikings offense to bring home his first win of the season. Minnesota showed up to play this week, amassing 31 points- more than their first two weeks combined. Unfortunately for Epi, Golden's New York Giants offense put up similar numbers and his Buffalo defense held strong against a Dolphins team caught in a perpetual identity crisis. That left Golden needing just two touchdowns out of the Green Bay Packers, who complied and then some. The Packers shoved 38 points down the throats of the Kansas City Chiefs, giving Golden a solid win.

MovingPictures07 28 - TURNIPHEAD 35
This was the nail-biter of the week because both MP and TH were dependent upon only one of their teams for the outcome. MP's Houston defense took on his Tampa offense, leaving him with the Dallas Cowboys to move him to 2-1. TH's Steeler's offense collided with his Rams defense, leaving him to look to the Indianapolis Colts to prevent him from dropping to 0-3. Both the Cowboys and the Colts played early games on Sunday but the scores remained close. This match-up went down to the wire and even looked like it might end in a tie, but the Colts got one final touchdown, giving TH a much needed win.

Leggyorlyb 26 - METALMARSH89 37
This was another game where the result wasn't much of a surprise but the score was closer than anticipated. Leggy was yet another team hampered by team schedules, with her Detroit defense playing her Denver offense. But if you have to rely on one team for a weekend, the Seattle offense against the hapless Bears offers quite the silver lining. The Seahawks didn't put up as many points as the Bears Week 1 and 2 opponents, which held Leggy back in the end. MM's early games left him with a score of -10. His Chargers offense struggles for a second week in a row and his Cincinnati defense let the Baltimore Ravens back into the game. Heading into the afternoon games, MM needed his Arizona Cardinals to work their offensive magic once more and they did so in spades. The Cardinals lit up the 49ers, pushing MM into first place in both the Civvie Conference and the entire league.

Here are the current league standings:

With Week 4 of the NFL season comes bye-weeks. This week, G-Man's New England Patriots offense has the week off. This means G-Man needs to select a supplementary team to fill the void on offense from the eight teams that went undrafted at the start of the season. Week 4 also brings us to our first non-conference games.

WEEK 4 MATCH-UPS:
DharmaHelper (2-1) v. Epignosis (0-3)
G-Man (2-1) v. Golden (1-2)
Leggyorlyb (2-1) v. MovingPictures07 (1-2)
Metalmarsh89 (3-0) v. TurnipHead (1-2)

Week 2 Results

After another intriguing Monday night showdown, the dust has cleared on the week. Here are the scores for Week 2:

If it's true that defense wins championships, then DharmaHelper may be thinking championship right now. Once again, his Jets defense held strong enough to clinch him the victory. Despite TurnipHead having one of the highest-scoring teams in the NFL on offense this week, his St. Louis defense proved porous enough to put him in a bind. TH needed the Colts to score just 19 points to walk away with the win (a seemingly easy task for one of last season's better offenses) but it wasn't to be.

Elsewhere this weekend, Epignosis had a great chance at winning. Metalmarsh's team was limited, as he had an offense and a defense playing against each other, resulting in a wash. The smart money seemed to be on Epi taking advantage of MM's weakness. But it seems that MM's Arizona offense is not to be underestimated. They single-handedly won the game for MM. Epi's team got the job done and scored enough points to beat five of the other six teams playing this weekend but he fell victim to a schedule working against his favor.

G-Man v. MovingPicture07 came down the the Dallas-Philly game. That game was a close affair but not close enough for G-Man to hold on for the win. Defense was once again a key contributor, as G-Man's Kansas City defense choked big time throughout the Thursday night game. MP07 benefited from a stronger game from Tampa Bay, though he has to be concerned about Dallas losing both their top wide receiver and the starting QB. For now though, he gets to bask in the glory.

Golden v. Leggyorlyb came down to the Sunday night game between Green Bay and Seattle. Golden's Buffalo defense let him down in a big way this week, leaving him in a hole that just couldn't dig out of. He needed a Green Bay blowout of the Seahawks of epic proportion but it was not in the cards, sending Leggy to 2-0.

The standings now tell an interesting story. The Baddie Conference shows signs of parity, with DH at 2-0, two 1-1 teams, and an 0-2. The Civvie Conference is less balanced. MM and Leggy sit at 2-0 while Epi and Golden are on the outside looking in at 0-2.

A new feature to not in the standings are the Top O's and Top D stats. These will note when a player had one of the top two offenses of the weekend and if they had the best defense for a weekend (fewest points allowed). In Week 1, nobody had the top two offenses or the top defense. These stats will be used as a tie-breaker if necessary later down the road.

WEEK 3 MATCHUPS:

DharmaHelper (2-0) v. G-Man (1-1)
Epignosis (0-2) v. Golden (0-2)
MovingPictures07 (1-1) v. TurnipHead (0-2)
Leggyorlyb (2-0) v. Metalmarsh89 (2-0)

Week 1 Results

Week 1 is in the books!  The first week of the NFL season held several surprises and it was no different in our EZ Fantasy Football League.  Here's a look at how the Week 1 games turned out:

DharmaHelper saw all of his teams play early on Sunday.  With his Ravens locked in a tight defensive battle, DH turned to the Bears for victory.  They put up decent numbers against the Packers and his Jets defense held strong against the scrambling Browns.  MovingPictures got off to a rough start with his Texans defense giving up a pile of points that turned out to be too great to overcome.  His risky pick of Tampa Bay, last year's bottom-feeders, turned out to be a bad gamble this week.  He entered the Sunday night game needing more points that his Dallas offense was capable of producing.

Epignosis v. Leggorlyb was the nail-biter of the week.  Epi's Carolina defense held the hapless Jaguars to only 9 points while Leggy's Lions defense seemed full of holes, costing her 33 points, erasing any gain her Seattle offense built for her early on Sunday.  That tight Denver-Baltimore game made things even more uncomfortable for Leggy.  Epi entered Monday night's game between San Francisco and his Minnesota offense needing only 8 points to steal a win in Week 1.  Sadly, the Vikings stole defeat from the jaws of victory by only putting up a field goal in a dismal opening week performance.

G-Man v. Turnip Head opened the season for us on Thursday night.  Their offenses put up respectable numbers, making their remaining offensive and defensive performances critical to their success.  When the dust settled on Sunday, Turnip Head was hanging his head in disappointment.  His Indy offense underperformed and his St. Louis defense gave up a lot of points against Seattle despite their thrilling overtime win.  G-Man's Kansas City defense was the difference maker, leaving him assured of the win even before his Philadelphia offense took the field Monday night.

Golden v. Metalmarsh was a battle of too offensive titans.  They're defenses were excellent as well.  Golden's Green Bay offense cancelled out MM's Arizona offense but Golden's New York Giants just couldn't keep pace with MM's San Diego Chargers, clinching a Week 1 win for the marmot.  One team had to win in the end but perhaps everyone should take notice of their potent offenses.  These two might ruin plenty of competitors days as the season rolls on.

Interestingly enough, neither of the two top offenses nor the top defense in the NFL this weekend were active in our fantasy league.  The top two offenses were the Tennessee Titans (undrafted) and the St. Louis Rams (who are being used as a defense).  The top defense in the league turned out to the be undrafted San Francisco 49ers.

Here are the standings after Week 1.  I will post a listing of our tie-breaking procedures in a future post.

WEEK 2 MATCHUPS:

DharmaHelper (1-0) v. Turnip Head (0-1)
Epignosis (0-1) v. Metalmarsh89 (1-0)
G-Man (1-0) v. MovingPictures07 (0-1)
Golden (0-1) v. Leggyorlyb (1-0)

2015 Season Participants and Draft Order

Only eight people signed up, so there will only be two conferences. Maybe next year we'll get enough interest to have divisions.

So here are the competitors this year:

DharmaHelper
Epignosis
G-Man
Golden
Leggyorlyb
Metalmarsh89
MovingPictures07
Turnip Head

THE DRAFT:

There will be three rounds of the draft.  I randomized the player list and we'll spend the next week selecting our teams.  Remember- when you must select two teams for your offense and one team for your defense.  When you make your draft choice, you must declare how you will use the team you select.

Once you make the selection, you are stuck with that team for the whole season.  You cannot switch a team between offense and defense.  The two teams you select for offense will be your offense for the whole season.  The team you select for your defense will be your defense for the whole season.  That's why it's called EZ Fantasy Football- you pick teams now and don't have to worry about making any changes the rest of the season.

There will be three rounds of the draft.  Once the first round is over, we will proceed backwards through the list in the second round.  The third round order will be identical to the first round order.

Here is your 2015 draft order:

ROUND 1:
1. Turnip Head
2. DharmaHelper
3. Golden
4. Epignosis
5. Metalmarsh89
6. Leggyorlyb
7. MovingPictures07
8. G-Man

ROUND 2:
9.  G-Man
10. MovingPictures07
11. Leggyorlyb
12. Metalmarsh89
13. Epignosis
14. Golden
15. DharmaHelper
16. Turnip Head

ROUND 3:
17. Turnip Head
18. DharmaHelper
19. Golden
20. Epignosis
21. Metalmarsh89
22. Leggyorlyb
23. MovingPictures07
24. G-Man

As of right now, Turnip Head is on the clock (figuratively speaking).  Please try to get your picks in as soon as possible.  We have a week before the first game of the season but will need a little time to get all of our selections entered into my spreadsheet and make a few formatting adjustments.

Post your selections in the thread.  Make sure you list both the team you are selecting and whether you will use them for offense or defense.
